Sri Lanka Easter Attack (2)

As night falls on the island, the curfew is in full effect. At least 207 people have died with children and foreign nationals amongst them. 450 have also been hurt in explosions. So far 8 people have been arrested but the investigation is ongoing.⁣⁣⁣
In the light of this attack, the eyes of the world are on Colombo to see how it will handle the situation.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
A measured response where terrorism is denounced and minorities are protected, from the nationalist backlash commonly seen after terror events will be paramount in showing Sri Lanka to be the tolerant state it claims to be⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
So far there has been a massive outpouring of support and crowds have flocked to blood banks in Colombo. Similar blood across the island such as the city of Jaffna have helped with blood shortages in Batticaloa.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
The prospect of further militarisation in what is one of the most militarised regions on the planet will be an unwelcome development. In the Wanni region alone there is one soldier for every three civilians and economic development and everyday life has been severely hampered despite it being a decade since civil war blighted the island.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Yet it remains to be seen what long term changes will be implemented due to this tragedy.⁣⁣⁣
